Vice President of Development

The vice president of development will lead all fundraising programs and serve as a key member of the Hay Institute's leadership team. This person will be responsible for expanding the Hay Institute's donor base and prospect pipeline to secure funding for current and future programs. A successful candidate will have broad experience managing development programs and staff, with an emphasis on major donor development and online fundraising. S/he will also 
be responsible for oversight the Communication Department and the
presentation of the Hay Institute virtually and publicly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive development strategy to identify and or increase
funding from major donors, small donors, foundations, and corporations.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of development and communication professionals and position the
department for future growth.
- Establish performance measures and monitor results in coordination with Human Capital Director to
evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's fund development program.
- Manage relationships with potential donors and board members and identify and cultivate new
supporters and promotion opportunities.
- Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and future
growth; cultivate existing relationships and develop new funder relationships.
- Provide oversight and direction of day-to-day operations of the organization's development function.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws and ethical codes of conduct and maintain
accountability standards to donors.
- Appropriately represent the organization to donors, prospects, fundraising volunteers and the
general public.
- Manage relationships and cultivate a partnership with similar organizations.
- Work collaboratively with the leadership team on cross-program activities.

Desired Experience and Expertise:

- Experience in a development role, including experience managing a development initiative.
- Proven ability to develop and manage both long-term strategic fundraising plans and concrete
annual plans.
- Demonstrated success in major donor fundraising, from identification to cultivation to solicitation to
- From online fundraising to managing the organization’s database. The ideal candidate should be
comfortable and experienced in using management and data collection technologies.
- Experience or interest developing or growing an online giving program.
- Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct reports and peers. This includes
a track record of effectively leading a team and mentoring team members.
- Strong attention to detail plus solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired Education:

- Master's degree in Social Sciences, Management, Law, or Humanities required.
